Job Title

Field Force Engineer

 

Primary objective of the job: 

  • The Field Force Engineeris responsible for the operation and maintenance of all aspect of the Radio Base Station (RBS) for the following Technologies:
  • 2G/3G
  • LTE both FDD and TDD
  • 5G
  • The Field Force Engineeris responsible for field network development and maintenance in the field for the organization. The individual will work with the technical team and the associated vendors to install, configure, maintain, and rectify all LAN/WAN and other equipment issues including but not limited to cell sites, microwave links, RAN equipment, and power equipment (Generators, UPS & Inverters) to ensure efficient network functionality according to the Group SLAs.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintenance of Base Station, power, and transmission equipment to ensure 100% cell availability.
  • Monitoring of all environmental factors, buildings, and grounds to include earthing, environmental, connections and measurements at Digicel sites.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of microwave links for multiple vendors.
  • Escalation and follow through of all anomalies to relevant departments.
  • Scheduling of preventative maintenance activities.
  • Co-ordination of all site related work and projects.
  • Co-ordination with other Engineers on outage solutions.
  • On-call support for afterhours outages and planned works as required and related to Field activities.
  • Conduct pre-installation site surveys to ensure all are in place for actual installations.
  • Installation of hardware and software to support mobile network functionality.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports as per business requirements.
  • Manage all on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks.
  • Ensure that cell-site visits are conducted regularly on all islands.
  • Test site and switch generators according to schedule to ensure functionality and availability of fuel.
  • Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of switch site Headend UPS and Inverter nodes.
  • Monitoring and Maintenance of site fiber links
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
  • Document processes associated with Field activities.
  • Operate vehicles in a safe manner and use field automation systems.
  • Follow all company's filed procedures and protocols.
  • Cooperate with technical team and share information across the organization.

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or similar qualification (Minimum: Diploma in telecommunications/electronics or equivalent)
  • Minimum of three years' experience in maintenance of telecommunications network.
  • Basic knowledge of GSM/WCDMA/LTE/5G architecture.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Microwave transmission systems.
  • Detailed working knowledge of DC and AC power systems
  • Detailed working knowledge of GSM/WCDMA/LTE/5G radio telephony operations.
  • Detailed working knowledge of associated test equipment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills/qualities.
  • The ability to work unsupervised and handle multiple priority assignments simultaneously.
  • Certification in tower climbing would be an asset.

 

  • The individual must have practical experience with:
  • Electrical installation
  • Fiber optic operation, LAN/WAN Technology
  • Network planning, Engineering, and development.
  • Knowledge of OS such as Linux/'Unix and Windows is an asset.

  • Working Condition: (e.g., dust, dirt, heat, abnormal hours, frequent travel, overtime, etc.
  • Required to work normal hours of Monday to Friday 8am — 5pm
  • Required to work late evenings, weekends and public holidays if required.
  • Required to travel to remote locations.
  • Required to travel overseas.
