Primary objective of the job: 

The Group Head of Tax is a senior member of the Group Finance Function and will be a strategic thought partner to the Group CFO, CEO, and executive team advising on various tax matters that will be influencing business decisions across the enterprise. You will be responsible for all tax matters across the Digicel Group that includes the 25 Caribbean and Latin American jurisdictions, and you will ensure that the Group is in compliance with all its tax obligations across all jurisdictions.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and maintain robust systems and processes to ensure timely and accurate payment and filing for all of the Group’s tax obligations
  • Ensure accurate tax accounting in the Consolidated and local entity financial statements for all tax balances
  • Implement and maintain appropriate tax planning and structuring arrangements to optimize the Group’s tax costs
  • Oversee documentation and review of position papers with respect to various complex tax issues
  • Provide commercial, pragmatic and actionable advice to the business on all tax matters including operational matters and strategic transactions
  • Implement and maintain appropriate review procedures and processes to optimize tax risk and identify uncertain tax positions
  • Proactively manage engagement with respective tax authorities, including enquiries, audits and disputes
  • Maintain awareness of all tax policy and legislative changes impacting the group and lead advocacy efforts by the Group on tax policy matters
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisers, in house and external legal counsel to ensure high quality of service and value for money
  • Lead the team to provide data-driven insights and business decision support across the organization
  • Support business through development of KPIs and proactive analysis of financial and operational metrics
  • Develop and continually improve automated reporting and create efficiencies surrounding existing reporting
  • Partner with the controllership function to ensure timely and accurate financial information
  • Work with key business leaders to identify actionable solutions from analysis and trends performed and identified by your team
  • Work with the CFO to prepare presentations for the Board of Directors, CEO and Executive Team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, accounting, legal, and operations, to achieve common financial goals
  • Provide financial insights and guidance to support strategic decision-making

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Professional Accounting and Tax qualifications required
  • Leadership and management experience in an in-house tax function of a large multinational organisation
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience, with at least 3 years as a financial leader in a complex multi-location service business
  • Experience in dealing with tax authorities and professional advisors around complex tax matters
  • Experience in dealing with tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions is strongly preferred
  • Prior knowledge and experience of working with Finance and Tax Technology tools
  • Relevant industry expertise (Telecommunication) is a plus
