Job Profile: Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs
Primary objective of the job:
- Develop, drive & coordinate Government Affairs strategies at the national and parochial level
- Raise Digicel's profile through developing communication strategies supporting the company's corporate reputation, strategic initiatives, marketed products, corporate social responsibility and pipeline programs
- Establish and leverage media network to improve and protect Digicel’s reputation in local media
- Develop and execute operator strategy on key industry issues, and engage support from fellow corporate and individual advocates/organisations
Main Duties and responsibilities:
Government Affairs
- Create strategy and drive affiliate Corporate Affairs stakeholder management\Develop relationships with key decision-makers and other stakeholders to advance Digicel's policy goals.
- Enhance visibility and reputation of Digicel with all relevant stakeholders and position Digicel as leader in digital innovation.
- Monitor the policy and political environment for salient and emerging issues, and timely and regularly inform the CEO and leadership team
- Work closely with the Legal and Regulatory team to identify opportunities and threats in the legislative process, to advance or defend identified Digicel's policy objectives
- Active engagement in trade associations to create a better business climate for Digicel
External and internal communications
- Support the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership in internal communications efforts to ensure aligned and focused messages to all employees.
- Develop and guide internal and external communication strategy, always ensuring strict compliance with disclosure rules.
- Provide dedicated and expert communications counsel and insights to the Executive Management Team on positioning and messaging in building awareness, understanding and supporting the company's strategic goals and priorities among multiple stakeholders.
- Develop, compose, distribute, and implement polices to enhance the efficiency of internal and external communications, and to further develop the building and maintaining of a positive corporate brand.
Media relations and issue management
- Build and maintain media network in Jamaica. Monitor and pro-actively manage developments that could enhance or threaten Digicel’s reputation in the media.
- Drive media coverage around key milestones, leveraging multiple channels such as general media, industry press, blogs, social media (including company website) to increase visibility and reach target audiences.
- Ensure positive coverage of Digicel's position as a leader in technology innovation.
- Manage crisis communications and issues management.
- Identify and address issues that may impact Digicel's reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.
- Co-develop and implement the Digicel's strategies for communicating and responding in the event of a crisis. Provide real-time support and guidance to the Executive Management Team on crisis/issues management
Industry Advocacy
- Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment with other departments within Digicel.
Capabilities-building
- Provide updates to the Executive Management Team on important changes in government and political structures, industry decision-makers and processes, and key policy movements.
- Keep CEO and Executive Management Team knowledge of corporate affairs, internal and external communications on a high level to enable strategic decision-making.
- Support periodic media preparation and training for Executive Leadership Team.
Financial
- Develop, implement and adhere to budget in relation to the Communications and Corporate Affairs portfolios.
Academic qualifications and experience required for job:
- Post graduate education with specialization in Marketing, Business Administration, IT or Numeracy
- Certification in Project Management
- At least ten (10) years of experience in Telecoms
- At least (10) years in senior management/leadership
- At least five (5) years’ experience in Marketing
Functional Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work on own in a dynamic and competitive environment
- Must have proven experience in negotiating high net-worth deals
- Must possess effective team building expertise.
- Must exhibit professional presentation skills and persuasive communication skills
- Must possess proven successful project management skills
