Primary objective of the job:
The IP/MPLS Engineer is responsible for the overall integrity and performance of the GPON network - including provisioning, commissioning and troubleshooting of IP/Telecom related services.
Main duties & responsibilities:
- Network design, planning, testing, implementation and assistance in the maintenance of all routers, switches and transport equipment to ensure optimum performance and highest network availability at all times
- Monitoring and Reporting KPIs on nodes and interfaces within the IP Infrastructure - including High Response Times/Packet Losses/High CPU Load/Bandwidth Utilization etc.
- Perform configuration, service provisioning and testing of telecommunication services over GPON network
- Provide design, configuration, redistribution and troubleshooting of IP routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, MPLS
- Ensure that all systems and network elements are designed and implemented with appropriate level of security, consistent with enterprise security policy. This includes configuration of access lists, firewalls and IT security best practices.
- Ensure the speedy resolution of all service affecting faults on the IP network in accordance with agreed service level agreements
- Support Sales team in creating, managing and supporting VOIP services.
- Support GPON services and assist in Level 2 support.
- Constant review of IP Infrastructure practices, procedures, configurations and strategy to ensure alignment with IP Industry best practices.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide technical support for escalated customer issues as well as supporting other internal teams.
- Any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Academic qualifications and experience required for the job:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Communication Engineering OR Computer Science/Software Engineering OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of CCNA certification
- In depth knowledge of IP Networks, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, MPLS-TE, QoS, Cisco IOS & IOS-XRtr
- Knowledge of fiber transport - DWDM Optical Technologies and GPON systems – including OLTs
- Experience with Cisco XXXX series switches/routers
