Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Draft, review and negotiate employment related agreements, including NDAs, contractor, employment and severance agreements
  • Provide legal advice, support and assistance on an array of labour and employment matters, including regulatory compliance, employee complaints, employee handbooks, compensation, employee relations, leaves of absence, accommodations, investigations, equity and benefits
  • Manage employee legal matters in the Caribbean region and globally, including employee litigation or industrial relations tribunal matters, responses to agency requests and attorney demand letters
  • Maintain an employment litigation tracker and attend court or administrative proceedings from time to time
  • Manage special projects as needed
  • Interact with various subsidiaries across the globe in addressing legal concerns and issues
  • Assist with day-to-day legal matters as they arise

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • LL.B Law degree with current practising certificate
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience with a major law firm and/or as in-house counsel with a focus on employee matters
  • Called to the Bar in one or more Commonwealth Caribbean countries (in good standing)
  • No less than an Upper Second Class (Honours) Degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited university
  • Strong understanding of employment law
  • Proven experience drafting and negotiating a wide variety of employment agreements and/or related documents
  • Experience with employment litigation and administrative proceedings
  • Ability to work efficiently, maintaining attention to detail within strict deadlines
  • Take a proactive and highly-organised approach to managing multiple and competing priorities within a fast-paced working environment
  • Flexible and excited about learning new things and remains process driven, detailed in your work, and efficient
  • Strong analytical, negotiating, writing and communication skills with excellent interpersonal communications skills (written and verbal) required
  • Team player who can also work independently and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Work beyond normal business hours is required occasionally to support business needs or projects
