Main objectives of the job: 

In the Senior Legal Counsel - Financial Services role you will have overall legal and regulatory responsibility for the financial services operations within the Digicel group operated under the group company Prism Services Holdings Limited (PSHL). The PSHL group includes Paymaster, MyCash, MonCash, Magna and is committed to expanding its footprint across the Caribbean. You will be required to play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal counsel, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing legal risks associated with our financial services operations.

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice to senior executives and stakeholders on legal matters affecting the financial services division
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of legal strategies aligned with business objectives
  • Monitor changes in financial services regulations and ensure the company's compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements
  • Interact with regulatory authorities to obtain necessary licenses and approvals and represent the company in regulatory discussions and inquiries related to the relevant business
  • Handle legal disputes and litigation related to mobile money operations
  • Work closely with external counsel when necessary and represent the company's interests in legal proceedings

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and technology, to ensure alignment on legal and regulatory matters

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • LL.B Law degree with current practising certificate
  • A minimum of at least 8 years post qualification experience, preferably with expertise in financial services, technology, or telecommunications law
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with a wide variety of stakeholders in a multi-lingual, international environment
  • A proactive and highly organized approach to managing multiple and competing priorities within a fast-paced working environment, maintaining attention to detail within strict deadlines
  • A confident yet diplomatic approach always exhibiting strong professionalism with colleagues and externally
  • Advanced negotiation and conflict management skills
