Primary objective of the job: 
The Senior Packet Core Engineer’s role is to assist in defining, deploying, and maintaining the company’s Mobile Packet Core architecture and its associated network connections and component hardware. This role offers Engineering support to all Digicel’s Markets and requires someone with advanced technical and interpersonal competences.



Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Packet Core infrastructure and its operations – change, incident, service-desk and problem management as well as proactive maintenance
  • Support implementation of new Packet Core projects, products and services, as well as the technical resources required to manage them
  • Where necessary, plan for management or phasing out of legacy systems
  • Collaborate with systems engineers/architects for upgrades to operating systems, hardware, etc
  • Utilize appropriate tools for reporting and routing of telephony traffic on the network
  • Remain current on new protocols, products, and standards in support of Packet Core systems development and equipment procurement
  • Perform audits as necessary
  • Monitor capacity and performance of traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of Mobile Packet Core systems
  • Conduct testing and development
  • Develop and deploy systems and processes to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and back-up network elements
  • Design and implement disaster recovery plans

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Electrical/ Electronic/Telecommunications engineering or equivalent and preferably 5 years work experience in Packet Core (5G, LTE, WCDMA, GPRS)

 

Or

  • CCNA Routing and Switching or equivalent, two years experience in IP operations and four years’ work experience in Packet Core (5G, LTE, WCDMA, GPRS).

 

Functional Skills:

  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to read, interpret and produce technical documents and procedure manuals
  • Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to successfully lead team members and vendors in adhoc teams to meet an objective
  • Inquisitive and proactive
  • Advanced knowledge of Affirmed Packet Core and Sandvine DPI is required
  • Working knowledge of 5G, LTE, WCDMA, GPRS Networks
  • Working knowledge of IP operations, routing and subnetting (CISCO experience is an asset)
  • Understand PCEF and PCRF functionality
  • Understand SS7, Sigtran and Diameter signaling (for Mobility and Charging)
  • Understand RF/wireless operations
  • Understand IP Traffic Management (Shaping and QoS for e.g.) and mitigation strategies
