Primary objective of the job:

The main function of the IT/IP engineer is to maintain and support the IT Operations of Digicel.  This goal is achieved through various responsibilities shared by all the Engineers.  These responsibilities include such tasks as maintaining all voice systems, Windows 2012 Servers, LAN, WAN and Internet Network, Network Nodes (routers, switches, access servers and radio links) PC network connectivity, PC applications and printers used by the internal customers. The IT/IP engineer also performs and monitors the network backups.

The IP/IT Engineer will also be responsible for the real-time management of all IP based local and wide area networks, which support the technical operations and services of Digicel DC. They will assist in the design and implementation of all new IP based systems, ensuring adherence to Group IP network security standards and policies. IP/IT engineer will provide first-line identification and resolution of faults and ensure that all required documentation is maintained in a timely basis.

 

Main Duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Monitor and maintain connectivity to Digicel’s Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Digicel hub’s
  • IP/IT constantly monitors the Internet and WAN links for drops in bandwidth and other problems that may arise.
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all IP based services, including Checkpoint firewall policy management, IP traffic management utilizing VLANs and routing protocols (OSPG, BGP), also DNS, web PROXY, and NTP applications.
  • Provide proactive support of WAN data and voice links (VSAT, leased lines) to provide 100% availability of all IP services, including VoIP, ITP (SS7 over IP) and internet, and to ensure continued connectivity to other Digicel locations and external parties
  • Maintenance of, Linux and Windows 2012 Servers;
  • LAN and WAN maintenance and monitoring:
  • Maintenance of Voice Equipment (i.e. PBX and ACD Systems) at the office locations.
  • Coordination of  IP related work and projects
  • Provide on-call support for after hour outages & planned works, including creation and submission of required forms
  • Ensure adherence with IP Security Group (Jamaica) standards and policies as they relate to new and existing LAN and WAN network infrastructure, IP traffic, and network configuration procedures
  • Ensure that network metrics are closely monitored and captured so as to provide proactive network management, as well as regular feedback on network performance in the form of reports to management
  • Keep accurate and timely documentation of all network events, system configuration, preventative and corrective maintenance schedules and IP administrative policies and procedures
  • Provide backup support for all VANS, SMS and DATA services

Academic qualifications and experience required for job:

  • Diploma in Computing Studies or Computer Science (MBO+/HBO)
  • Experience with Check Point Firewall Installation, Configuration and Administration
  • Experience with Remote Client Access Administration
  • Experience with CISCO Switch and Router Administration and configuration
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience and training in Network Security.
  • Experience with routers and high-level Switches

 

Functional Skills:

  • Windows 2008/2012 Server Installation and Administration
  • SQL Server 2012 set-up and Database Administration
  • MS Exchange Server Installation and Administration
  • LAN and WAN Installation, configuration and Maintenance
  • Ability to work unsupervised and handle multiple priority assignments simultaneously
  • Good team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
