Job Title: Data Warehouse Analyst (1 year Contract) 

 

 

 

Primary objective of the job:

 

 

The Data Warehouse Analyst (contract) is responsible for maintaining a high level of integrity of all reporting data being collected, stored and manipulated for Business Reporting. This includes:

    • Accuracy
    • Quality
    • Timeliness of availability

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

a) Maintenance and Support

  • Perform daily maintenance tasks and routine data checks on the various data interfaces, including on-premise and cloud-based platforms such as Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Monitor ETL processes, database health, and scheduled jobs to ensure timely and accurate data loads.
  • Ensure issues are documented, communicated, and resolved within agreed timelines.
  • Liaise with technical teams on new data feeds, changes to existing feeds, and issue resolution.

 

 

b) Service Delivery

  • Address trouble tickets from the help desk or internal stakeholders as they arise.
  • Ensure all tickets contain accurate categories, updates, wrap codes, and detailed resolutions.
  • Provide timely feedback to users on status, expected timelines, and outcomes.

 

 

c) Scripting and ETL Development

  • Develop Unix shell scripts, PL/SQL, and related ETL processes for loading data into the Data Warehouse, both on-premise and in Azure environments.
  • Build efficient data extraction routines for reporting, analytics, and data sharing.
  • Optimize the data environment for efficient enterprise data access, including index/partition creation and management.
  • Assist reporting analysts in query tuning and process optimization for increased efficiency.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain Azure Data Factory pipelines for cloud-based ETL workflows.

 

d) Data Quality and Governance

  • Implement data validation and reconciliation checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of warehouse data.
  • Define, document, and enforce data quality rules, naming conventions, and metadata standards.
  • Track and maintain data lineage for critical datasets using Azure Purview or similar tools.

 

 

e) Requirements Gathering and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with business units to capture and translate reporting/analytics requirements into technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to align priorities and ensure deliverables meet both functional and performance expectations.

 

 

f) Performance Monitoring and Capacity Planning

  • Monitor ETL, query, and report performance, identifying opportunities for tuning and efficiency gains in both on-premise and Azure environments.
  • Forecast data storage and processing requirements, coordinating with infrastructure teams for scaling and upgrades.
  • Utilize Azure Monitor and Log Analytics for proactive performance management.

 

 

g) DBA Collaboration and Support

  • Advise and consult with systems administrators and DBAs on database access, storage optimization, and capacity management.
  • Create and maintain logical and physical data models to support data warehousing needs.
  • Assist DBAs in designing and maintaining database structures that support optimal performance and scalability in SQL Server and Azure Synapse.

 

 

h) Documentation and Knowledge Transfer

  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for ETL processes, data models, workflows, and operational procedures.
  • Prepare runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge articles to ensure operational continuity.
  • Conduct training or handover sessions to team members and relevant stakeholders, including best practices for Azure-based data solutions.

 

 

i) Compliance and Security

  • Ensure that data access and handling comply with company security policies and applicable legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Manage user permissions and data access rights in coordination with security teams, including Azure role-based access control (RBAC).
  • Support audit processes by providing required evidence and documentation.

 

 

j) Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate new tools, technologies, and methods to improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of the data warehouse environment.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve system integration using Azure services such as Logic Apps or Functions.

 

 

 

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

 

 

  • BSc. Computer Science / Information Technology and/or Oracle Advanced SQL or DBA Certification
  • Strong working knowledge with at least 2 years’ experience in
  • SQL and  PL/SQL
  • Oracle 10g and 11g databases
  • Knowledge of UNIX Systems and shell scripting.
  • Core database concepts:
      • Database design
      • Design and Understand Data Flow and Entity Relationship Diagrams
  •  Knowledge and Understanding of:
  • Data warehousing and data modeling techniques within Oracle environments.
  • Extract, Transformation, and Load (ETL) tools.
  • Azure Concepts & PowerBi
