Job Title: GIS Engineer

 

 

Summary/Objective: 

 

The Geographic Information System (GIS) Engineer, will be a subject matter expert in the support of the Geographical Information System (GIS) initiative of Digicel Group through network mapping, design and the ongoing maintenance of data and applications in the GIS environment.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Data Collection:

 

  • Collect data in the field using Global Positioning System (G.P.S.) and other mapping applications; collection and conversion of mapping resources and data.

 

GIS Data Analysis:

 

  • Analyse GIS data, to identify spatial relationships and generate reports to support informed decision making; conduct programmatic technical spatial analysis and data mining.

 

GIS Data Management:

 

  • Perform technical GIS mapping and GPS data collection, in support of the enterprise GIS initiative using GIS software, GPS equipment and other related tools.
  • Compile and organize GIS data from maps, databases and other sources.
  • Digitize and edit geographic features to maintain spatial relationships using topology.
  • Efficiently create and edit feature geometry and attributes.

 

Data Integrity:

 

  • Create as-built drawings using Ericsson Network Engineer.
  • Ensure that quality assurance on new or revised data conforms to standards laid out in the GeoDatabase, or any other applicable standard or policy.
  • Solve common data alignment issues.

 

Design:

 

  • Create designs and models for Mobile, fixed and Business Solutions network builds and expansion.
  • Assist Business Solution with tenders and responses.
  • Manage Splice matrix and network connections based on design works or amendments.

 

Support:

 

  • Provide support to other areas of business such as Sales and BI with Geographic based analysis:

 

 

Qualifications:

 

A degree or equivalent combination of certificate and experience in any of the following subject areas:

  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Geography, Computer Science or Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in GIS and GIS related activities

  • Experience in and with the mobile telecommunications sector would be considered a valuable asset.

Other Required Job Specific Skills

 

  • Experience and working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, and other mapping applications
  • Experience with and knowledge of Ericsson Network suite of products
  • Ability to apply principles of analytical problem solving and GIS industry standards to a range of problems
  • Ability to work with data in multiple formats, coordinate systems, and datum
  • Working knowledge of the interoperability of GIS with various documents, spreadsheets, databases, and image formats
  • Working knowledge of Fibre to the Home networks and telecom
  • Knowledge of Outside Plant equipment and activities
