Job Title: Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer (Contract-GB)

 

 

 

Primary objective of the job:

 

 

The Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer (Contract-GB) is responsible for engineering, construction, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of the company’s fibre optic network and related services. The OSP Engineer will plan, design, implement, and manage Outside Plant (OSP) network infrastructure projects from conception to completion, ensuring all fibre installations meet engineering, safety, and quality standards. The role includes coordinating construction activities, conducting quality control inspections, and overseeing the PAC (Preliminary Acceptance Certificate) and FAC (Final Acceptance Certificate) processes to verify compliance with technical specifications and contractual requirements. The OSP Engineer is also accountable for ensuring timely project delivery, maintaining accurate documentation, and completing final sign-off for network readiness and operational handover.

 

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

 

  • Carry out correct work methods in accordance with health and safety standards and cable vender instructions.
  • Execute build out in accordance with design; liaise with engineers to ensure that specification is compliant with the design of the fiber optic network 
  • Provide oversight to ensure that the company standards are being adhered to  
  • Researches and recommends which OSP materials are to be used in the fiber optic network
  • Analyze material performance, carry research and recommends/suggests changes as needed
  • Participate in the development of troubleshooting and maintenance schedules and protocols.
  • Coordinates work with contractors and other departments as needed to construct and maintain the fiber optic network.
  • Carry out site survey to support the design, development and maintenance of the fiber network
  • Participate in preparation of the design and costing of all additions to the OSP fiber optic network.
  • Performs and / or coordinate special projects as assigned.
  • Works closely with the OSP Engineers/Manager in the design of the fiber optic network.

 

 

 

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

 

 

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the fiber optic cabling business/environment/including testing or relevant experience
  • Experienced in using power measurements and the OTDR preferred
  • Experience in both buried, direct buried and overhead cabling methods preferred
  • Knowledge of CAD OR GIS desirable
  • Basic knowledge of the planning, design and engineering of OSP fiber optic networks preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the standards, materials, techniques and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of OSP fiber optic facilities
  • Working knowledge of fiber optic transmission
