Primary objective of the job:
The Senior GIS & Design Engineer role supports the surveys, planning, designs and optimization and construction of Fixed-Line Networks across all Digicel markets. The primary responsibilities surround the maintenance of network quality and managing the Outside Plant (OSP) using geospatial data and technologies to ensure accurate representation on digital maps, aiding expansion, capacity, and overall network performance. He or she creates the framework for FTTH & FTTB deployment, facilitates fibre rollout projects and provides technical support to internal and external customers. This requires knowledge of fibre networks, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, priority management and effective communication skills.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare/maintain BoMs, work-packs (SMs, SLDs, Primary & Patching documents) work plans, project plans and schedules
- Conduct QC & QA audit on network elements and network documentation used in Outside Plants
- Conduct spatial analysis to identify network coverage gaps and areas of improvement.
- Support surveys, design (FTTx HLDs & LLDs), construction and processing of DCRs for Greenfield and brownfield network expansions
- Utilize existing OSS and BSS systems to provide GIS based insights and optimize operations
- Recommend and implement strategies to ensure logical network in ISP is aligned with the physical construction of the Outside Plant
- Creation of as-built drawings using Arc GIS PRO, Ericsson Network Engineer, ArcGIS Online
- Prepare/maintain SOPs related to technical operations and fibre design
Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of certificate and experience in any of the following areas : Geography, Urban Planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Designs or other related field
- Knowledge of telecom networks: FTTx, P2P etc
- Experience with Fixed and Wireless networks
- Professional experience with Telecommunications and business GIS
- Proven experience (5 years) working as a GIS Designer or similar role in a technology-driven environment, preferably in the telecommunications industry
- Thorough working knowledge of Esri ArcGIS software, and other mapping applications
- Fiber design Certification from FOA or ETAI
- Solid understanding of geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and cartographic principles
Functional Skills:
- Geospatial skills from working with ArcGIS PRO, Ericsson Network Engineer (ENE), QGIS, Esri ArcGIS software suite, and other mapping applications
- Knowledge of Outside Plant equipment and activities
- Ability to work with data in multiple formats, coordinate systems, and datum
- Experience with Fixed-Line & Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) telecommunication technologies such as: FTTh, FTTb, FTTs, P2P and TTD-LTE networks
- Understand emerging technologies GPON, XGSPON and their ability to improve business processes and help drive revenue
- Experience with designing point-to-point (P2P) and point-multi-point (P2MP) networks
- Strong analyses and problem-solving skills to evaluate alternatives and address complex network-related challenges
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented, fast-paced
