Job Title

IP Engineer

 

Primary objective of the job: 

Leads in defining, deploying, and maintaining the company’s IP/MPLS infrastructure and architecture along with its associated service networks, which will include Core IP/MPLS, Edge, Fixed and Mobile IP RAN.  This role offers Tier 2 Engineering support to all and requires someone with advanced technical and interpersonal competences will perform vendor and solution evaluations when needed.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and assistance in the maintenance of all routers, switches, and firewall equipment to ensure optimum performance at all times.
  • Drive the adoption of next-generation technologies through lifecycle programs
  • Act as an evangelist for the network and our architectures, ensuring support and acceptance of our strategy across departments.
  • Identify, acquire and/or train junior engineers on the introduction of new processes, techniques, and technologies as necessary in support of new services or service features.
  • Contribute to developing business cases and conducting proof of concept for new product offerings.
  • Ensure the high availability and reliability of the network supporting the region’s Internet/IP and Data systems and networks.
  • Review technical design documentation and implement technologies within IP/MPLS networks to support business and customer needs.
  • Provide 2nd tier technical support for market operations teams
  • Assist with the development of processes and procedures outlining clear operational guidelines.
  • Work with internal as well as external technical teams during the design, development, and implementation phases of various network-related initiatives.
  • Install, Configure and manage Network management systems and be conversant with IP network management concepts and procedures
  • Ensure that all systems and network elements are implemented with an appropriate level of security, consistent with the business IP security policy.
  • Perform R&D with a view to continuously improving, technology, products, and services
  • Establish and communicate appropriate service level agreements (SLA’s) for measuring the productivity of key business processes and respective applications
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure timely development and deployment of new products and services.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports as per business requirements.
  • Ensure that all network elements are adequately secured against vulnerabilities by employing the relevant IP security best practices.
  • Maintain all major network elements so as to achieve 99.99% availability
  • Ensure the speedy resolution of all service-affecting faults on the IP network in accordance with agreed service level agreements.
  • Participate in the "on-call" rotation with other members of the team.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the manager.

 

Academic qualifications and experience required:

  • Five years’ experience or more, in a Network engineering or ISP environment.
  • Cisco CCIE is an asset
  • CCNP/JNCIP/HCIP equivalent certification
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
