JOB TITLE: TX & RF Operations Engineer

 

Primary objective of the job:

The TX & RF Operations Engineer will maintain and support the TX & RF operations of Digicel. Responsible for enhancing network capacity, coverage, and overall customer experience, ensuring the optimal performance, design, and maintenance of our communication networks, and contributing to the company's success in providing reliable and seamless services.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Digicel’s transmission and radio frequency systems, ensuring optimal network performance.
  • Collaborate with the network design and optimisation teams to improve TX and RF network performance, capacity, and coverage.
  • Install, configure, and commission TX & RF equipment and devices, and associated hardware, following industry best practices and standards. Ensure proper connectivity and integration with existing network elements.
  • Monitor network nodes to identify and resolve performance issues, faults, and alarms. Perform regular maintenance activities, including software upgrades, patch installations, and firmware updates. Proactively optimise network capacity and performance.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot network issues, both proactively and reactively, by analysing logs, alarms, and performance metrics. Diagnose and resolve faults in a timely manner to minimize service disruption and ensure network availability.
  • Monitor network traffic patterns, bandwidth utilisation, and network performance metrics to forecast capacity requirements. Collaborate with the network planning team to ensure adequate capacity and scalability to meet customer demands.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to network infrastructure, including network diagrams, network configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures. Generate reports on network performance, capacity utilisation, and maintenance activities. Provide regular updates to the management team on network status and performance.
  • Conduct site surveys and perform link planning to determine optimal configurations, considering factors such as terrain, capacity requirements, and path clearance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network operations, project management, and vendors, to coordinate network deployments, upgrades, and maintenance activities. Liaise with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure compliance with technical standards and industry best practices.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices, suggesting new ideas or solutions for network performance improvements.
  • Be available outside regular working hours to provide emergency support and respond to urgent issues as they arise.

 

Academic qualifications and experience required for job:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of RF and TX technologies, including but not limited to microwave transmission, fiber optics, 2G/3G/LTE/5G etc.
  • Familiarity with planning tools and software for link budget calculations, path analysis, and frequency planning.
  • Familiarity with optical transmission principles, including fiber optics, wavelengths, and signal modulation.
  • Understanding of network protocols, routing, and networking concepts.
  • An acceptable combination of academic qualifications and work experience may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
